Build guide

When there's something you should be able to build but PZ's jankiness gets in the way, build tickets are the solution.

🏘️ Why would I want to open a build ticket?

Everyone wants to see their plans coming to life! Considering how chaotic these tickets can be, we decided to create a guide for things to be more straight to the point. This guide might look long and complicated, but once you get to the examples you'll see it's actually pretty simple stuff!

Sometimes, there's tiles that you can't build yourself and you'd LOVE to have them... or you might be a level 10 skill that grants you a 50% off on materials! Maybe you're confused on how to get something built, or those damned tiles won't stack properly over each other.

If we can help, we will -but you have to help us by following this guide, too.

❓ When should I open a build ticket?

  • Once you've built everything you can on your own, or if you're a carpenter/metalworker and want to take advantage of your 50% discount on materials.
Keep in mind that we will ask for proof of being a carpenter or a metalworker and we can check if you've changed your profession in bad faith.
The carpenter or metalworker must be active players (must have played during the last week).
Metalworkers can ask for this benefit too, as long as they want to build with metal. Carpenters won't get benefits on tiles that exclusively require metalworking. Other tiles might require a farmer or a tailor.
  • If you need help with anything else, or have a doubt, open it. We'll see how we can help, even if it's just guidance.

Keep in mind that these tickets are not for us to build the base for you. We will simply help you along the way!

🎟️ How do I open a build ticket?

  1. Open a general ticket.
  2. Fill the information up following this template:
    - Why are you creating this ticket?
Build ticket: (small description of what you're building either in this section or in the messages themselves).
    - Coordinates:
/tpto (coords to the spot you're building at, without spaces. You can use the command /coords in game to find them.)
    For example: /tpto 15330,1995,0
    - Players involved:
Full name of the involved character/s. If you have a carpenter or any skilled worker, you can include it in between brackets.
For example: Mary Goodman, Robert Hughes (carpenter)
  3. Open the ticket!

If you fail to write any of these sections as requested, we will ask you to resubmit the ticket.

🔨 How will the ticket work?

Example tickets are shown later in this guide.

It depends on whether you're wanting help doing something you can't do yourself (like making a roof, placing a window upstairs, deleting a tile that can't be destroyed with a sledgehammer, placing a tile in a way that makes sense but the mechanics don't allow it...) or whether you would like to build a base (this makes more sense if you would like the discounts if they apply, but you can always ask for advice).

To build a base, these are the steps to follow to ensure a more realistic build process/time and so it's easier to keep track of everything.

Keep in mind that the build will be made room by room (this might change depending on who works with you. You may not staff shop):

  1. Build all of the structures (walls, floors, doors, etc).
  2. Furnishing with tiles you have access to in the build menu or the carpentry menu.
  3. Special tiles addition (requires level 10 people and you telling us what the tileset is, or a /coords of the item location on the map).
  4. A last check to make sure everything has been done.

We will require screenshots of the project and any information you want to add, and we'll be telling you what you need per room.

💸 How do professionals get their discount?

A professional is considered someone that reach level 10 in a skill.

Depending on the necessary skills to build certain structures or furniture, a different kind of profession will be needed. The primary skill needed for what you want to build is what will be kept in mind.

Note: Not all the things that you can build will have a discount. For example, architecture plus and floors only have discounts when it comes to concrete uses.

  • Whenever we start to work on a part of the building, we will tell you the amount of materials that might be needed to complete it.
  • Players gather half of said materials.
  • Moderators deliver the other half.
  • Players build the room.
Only when the room is completed, we will continue with the rest of the build. If you waste the materials we gave you for other things, you've lost the chance to get help in those rooms and we will continue with a different one. If you are short a few materials, you can gather the items yourself.

🙋 FAQ

❔ How long will my build take?
However long it needs to take! Considering that both players and admins have things to do in their daily life and that gathering resources takes time, there's no real estimate. If it's small, it'll be faster; if it's big, it'll take a long time.

❔ Why did you reject my carpenter/metalworker?
If the character you're attempting to use as a professional isn't an active player, they won't be able to use their benefits.

❔ How do I prove I am/someone is a carpenter/metalworker?
The professional will be added into the ticket. They will be required to send a screenshot that shows their character profile UI and their levels UI, along with their character on the screen. The character profile UI should show "Save" and "Close". If you're a new player or respecced not long ago because you actually want to be a carpenter, we will request that you show your Info UI instead of your levels.
If we find out that the assigned carpenter changed their profession just for the ticket, there will be consequences for powergaming. This is something extremely easy to figure out, so don't do it.

❔ What if my carpenter dies/respecs or they don't want to help me anymore?
Sounds like you'll need to find a new one! That's just the perks of living through a zombie apocalypse.
There might be exceptions if the player was banned or we were not able to help you fast enough in your ticket!

❔ But my build is so big, you'd be faster with the admin tools!
Exactly, it's your build. We're here to assist you, not to do the work for you unless it's literally impossible for you to get something done because of mechanics/lack of tiles, and we have plenty of other tickets to take care of.
Remember that we will do the build in small sections, or you can simply open different tickets as you find motivation to work on your projects.

❔ Can you move the stuff for me? It's faster.

  • Admins have a risk of picking up containers that have items in them, which means they will be lost forever and we won't risk this.
  • The ticket is your project, so you should prepare the area so the admin working on your ticket is able to work comfortably.
  • Keep in mind that your ticket isn't the only ticket open -we have more people to help.

❔ The tile I want cannot be built!
If a specific tile cannot be built, consider whether it should be a crafting ticket or a build ticket. Anything structural, like a wall, will be a build ticket. You will be required to hire/to be a level 10 specialist and telling us the name of the tileset. We will consider adding it to the Deadline section on the building menu!

🔎 Example of a build ticket

Sooner or later, links to a couple actual tickets will appear, so you can see real examples!

Let's say that you want to create this simple specific build (we will skip the furnishing of the second floor for this example):

🙆 NON-PROFESSIONALS BUILD

This is a build you can do pretty much by yourself, except for a few specific things that need to be done by admins. In this example case, an admin would specifically help you with:

  • Placing the outside windows on the upper floor for you.
  • Placing the stairs against the wall (when you build them yourself, the game forces a space behind to exist).
  • The yellow marks are uncraftable tiles. This means that you would need a level 10 metalworker for the fence outside, and a level 10 carpenter to make the bucket inside. The posters can be traded for a paper, as long as you show us what the tileset is (check this section to see an example on how to share it).

Keep in mind that there's a lot more that might you might need help with -just ask about it. Some examples are how some door frames don't work properly, figuring out why your room is not an inside, placing hanging fairy lights from pole to pole instead of against a wall, curtains for doors...

👷‍♂️ PROFESSIONAL BUILD

If you're a level 10 player on specific skills, we'll take this project piece by piece. Let's pretend that, for this build, you have both a level 10 carpenter and a level 10 metalworker doing things together, but you don't have a level 10 tailor.

Note: Not all the things that you can build will have a discount. For example, architecture plus and floors only have discounts when it comes to concrete uses.

For the specific example shown in the screenshots above, we would proceed the following way.

Step 1: Build the structures one room at a time

That building has 4 rooms -don't worry, you don't need to draw anything on the rooms, this is just to show you what's considered a structure! What you can see in the following screenshot is the final look you will have before being able to furnish your home.

Room 1 needs to be completed before following with room 2, and so on. In red and yellow, you can see what would be considered the structure of the build.

03_StructurePerRoom.jpg

This way, we can easily calculate how much each room costs. You will need to show us what each tile you want to use costs in the build menu.

For simplicity, we will only do Room 1. This is what you should show us:

01_FinalBuildInside.jpg

"This is a 5x5 room with 1 jail cell door and 1 window. Here's the cost for each tile (in the ticket, you should send it as separate images! They're together in the guide to save space):"

04_PricesPerStructuralItem.jpg

We would reply with something like this:

"There's crates in (coords). Leave the following materials inside and we will add the other half:

Glass Pane: 1
Metal Bars or metal pipes: 14
Metal Sheet: 16
Nails: 43
Plank: 58
Propane Torch (uses): 23
Screws:20
Welding Rods (uses): 11

Do not take the crates and leave all the unused materials and empty tools in the crate."

You would build the whole thing, however we would do the stairs for you as you cannot place them against a wall because of game mechanics.

Step 2: Build the furniture

This is exactly the same way as the step before, however it's with furniture that's craftable in game. For example, in Room 1, this is what would be considered craftable furniture:

05_Furniture.jpg

In this case, you wouldn't get a discount for the mattress or the rug, as both are considered tailoring recipes (remember that for this example, you only have a carpenter and a metalworker helping you out).

The way to show the material costs is the same, and the way to gather the materials is the same: you must tell staff how many of each furnishing you have along with the screenshots of the prices. For example, along with the image of the cupboards, you say "2 wooden counters".

Step 3: I want special tiles!

These tiles would be considered special tiles:

06_SpecialTiles.jpg

We will make up a price on the spot (no complaints about possible differences between each ticket, we're not robots!).

What you must show is where the tile is located, either in /coords or showing us where they are in the tilesets. You must write the name of the tileset, or else the tile won't be considered.

For example, for those two tiles, you'd have to send the following:

"I would like to have these three tiles. They're in aza_posters1 and crafted_05

07_SpecialTilesLocation.jpg "

⁉️ But I have to gather so much information!

Sometimes, admins know where the tiles are... most times, we spend a long time attempting to figure out where the specific tile you want is located. It'll be faster and easier for both the player and the admin if you give us the information as requested -we have responsibilities outside of the game, and plenty other tickets to do on a daily basis. So, for the sake of the volunteers helping you out, this is the way to have your ticket accepted.

🗂️ Summary

Not a carpenter
Do all you can yourself and we'll help in things you can't do yourself/things you're confused about.

Carpenter
We'll work following three steps: structure, craftable furniture, special tiles. It will be done one room at a time. Once all the rooms have their structure, they will get furnished, and finally they'll get the special tiles.
We calculate how much each room costs, you get half of those materials, we give you the other half, you build it.
We'll also help in things you can't do yourself/things you're confused about.
