๐ฒ Dice With Death
When you've pushed your luck...
Dicing with death is the ultimate consequence. The default when losing in PvP is to Dice with Death, but there are other two possible outcomes:
- You can choose to allow the death to be instant.
- You can to an arrangement with the other players involved about other consequences. All participants must agree.
At the top right of the Dice Menu, there is a "Dice with Death" button. When you click the button, the dice will roll and decide your character's fate.
Notes:
- Deaths from PvE (Zombies, falls, glitches) are not permanent unless you choose.
- If your character died in PvP by accident or while complying, they will always be considered to have rolled a 5/6 on the Dice and you do not need to make a ticket.
Dice with Death Roll
๐ 1-2: Your character died of their wounds in the scene.
You have no actions after the death unless specifically approved by staff or with approval from your opponents. This might be something like last words telling someone where you hid their prized hamster or cursing your killer as you crash through a glass coffee table. Generally, something dramatic but will not affect the results of the scene or inform others of your attacker.๐ฅ 3-4: Your character will only survive if treated by someone highly skilled in First Aid (6+) within the next 60 (IRL) minutes.
Time starts after the entire PvP scene has concluded. The medic would roll Medical and results below 15 would result in severe ongoing injuries (such as a permanent negative trait or scar). 15 and above would result in severe temporary injuries you are expected to play for at least 2 IRL weeks. You can do this by applying injuries mechanically to yourself, but in general, you should be doing med rp, avoiding very physical activities and showing painful but progressive recovery. Involved characters should not be actively preventing rescue.๐ตโ๐ซ 5-6: Your character is unconscious and/or incapable of fighting.
You cannot perform any actions as long as your enemy is present. When they leave, you should roleplay appropriate injuries.
Torture
Be mindful of the rules on challenging content.
Torture Rules
- When can you torture another player?
Torture roleplay is meant as an instrument to create more story. A dark and violent story, but story none the less. There are many in character reasons for torture roleplay. What is important is that it serves to create or prolong a story. You can never engage in torture roleplay for OOC reasons. It needs to make sense for both your story and the victim's story. Simply torturing someone because your character wants to, or is a psychopath, is not a valid reason. If you choose to torture another player, you must keep in mind that this is a very violent act. Retribution in the form of a Murder ticket, is a possible consequence.
Consent
Torture roleplay is a very sensitive subject and should be handled with care. Deadline is a zombie apocalypse roleplaying server, violence and torture is a part of this world. If the torturer has a valid reason to torture the victim, then it does not require consent. What does require consent however, is typing out the torture. Storywise, torture might make sense, but OOC it can be very disturbing for players. So, if you want to type out torture roleplay, you must ask for consent in ooc chat. If the player wants the scene to stop at any moment, you must oblige.
This does not mean the scene is voided. It means you can't describe the torture in the chatbox. Instead, the scene will fade to black. Which means the torture has happened, storywise. Even though the scene has not been roleplayed.
What kind of torture?
Torture roleplay can include confinement, pain infliction, verbal abuse, psychological manipulation or plain violence. You as the torturer can get creative with the methods, however there are a few things that are not allowed:
- Anything related to sexual parts
- Sexual fetishes/kinks disguised as torture
- Undressing characters in a sexual manner
- Undressing characters in a non sexual way is only okay with the explicit OOC consent of the other player. If they don't give consent, you must provide long johns or a t-shirt and pants.
Permanent damage
If you want to permanently damage another player (by taking a limb, cutting off their tongue or taking an eyeball) then you need either OOC permission from the other player, or you need to receive approval from management (make a management ticket). We will approve this if we believe it makes sense from a story perspective.
The torture scene should benefit the story that is in place. A torture scene is often meant as an alternative to murder. If your character wants to permanently hurt the victim, then it is important to also think of the OOC consequences of such damage. If you for example decide to blind another character, you will greatly impact the roleplay options of your victim. Same goes when you chop off both hands, or cut off their feet.
This means that chopping off one hand, or one foot, is okay. Taking one eye is also fine. The player can continue to roleplay their character. (and with some good roleplay, they can get a peg leg, a prosthetic hand or fake eyeball).
OOC communication Before AND After
Because this is such a serious and heavy themed form of roleplay, it is important that you have OOC contact with the player:
When you ask for consent to roleplay a torture scene together and discuss any boundaries (ex: graphicness of language, body parts, permanent injuries, scarring, any triggers).
You, as the torturer, are responsible for a good scene. It is you who must make sure the other player is comfortable with the scene. You may ask them in OOC before the scene (See example screenshot). Or you can make a thread in Open Communication which is only seen by the other player and by staff. When the scene is over check in with them in OOC, by DMs on Discord or by tagging them in a private open communications thread, to make sure they are okay.
If you fail to show care for the other player, you might be banned from doing further torture roleplay on Deadline. You can also make a Concern ticket to discuss with staff and ask the player to be added.
Always check in before and after a torture scene.

Prison
When a character is taken captive...
๐จ Prison Rules
The setting of Prison may be fun and interesting in common media, but when a person is being held captive without roleplay, the opposite is often true.
To take someone prisoner you must have a deadline to the goals and narrative you wish to create with this person being captured.
The Prisoner must be taken during a related conflict, for example kidnapping the loved one of a person who is blackmailing you.You cannot take someone prisoner without a back and forth conflict.
This means you cannot kidnap someone randomly and wish to blackmail them for supplies.
While this may seem fun for the aggressor, the captive may find the narrative boring and unable to spend scarce gaming time captive and unable to role-play.
โฑ๏ธ "How long can I keep my prisoner?"
It depends on what your intentions are. The earlier the release, the better.
Perhaps you want to do a prisoner swap and want to organize a common time? Perhaps you want them to work for a while at your base?
48 hours is more than enough to organize this.
If you have a date set after the 48 hours, please make a ticket and Admins will assess the situation with all parties. There must be a strong reason to keep someone imprisoned for longer than 48 hours.
An example would be having taken someone prisoner while already having an approved murder ticket and wishing to organize a narrative ending to their story. You must provide the prisoner with the opportunity of some roleplay while they are imprisoned, as well as a survivable amount of food and water and a secure location.
You can withhold food and water IC, but OOC don't starve their character so we have to deal with them dying prematurely due to PZ's accelerated time frame.Prisoners may attempt to break out of their cell, just as others can attempt to rescue them with a raid ticket.
It's best that you declare any kind of security set up and searches in a ticket so staff is aware.
Murder / Character Kill Tickets
When the story is coming to an end...
๐ช Murder/Character Kill Tickets
The climax of the story is almost here. Tension has been built up. You've had multiple altercations. Someone will live, someone will die.
Open a red Murder/CK Request ticket which will be reviewed by management. You agree that your character is as much at risk as the other character(s) in the ticket. You might not survive and would be required to accept the death. Give a brief summary of the following:
- What characters are in contest with each other?
- Why?
- What do you think the best story driven resolution would be?
- Are you open to any other resolutions (than death)?
๐๏ธ What happens after the ticket is opened?
Management reviews your request, asks questions and contacts the other player(s) involved to discuss. Because there should be build up associated with your request, the fact escalation is on the horizon won't be a secret. This is about working together to get the most amazing end for at least one person. Hell, maybe you join each other in death! We won't pre-plan the end for you, but we will make sure the rules of engagement are clear.
๐ค What if we both agree?
You can always discuss the possibility of lethal hostilities with the other player involved. The more open the lines of communication are OOC, the better it is for everyone. If you both agree you're coming to the end of the conflict and it's a "them or me" situation now, just mention that in the ticket. We'll bring both parties in to discuss the terms of engagement and add our seal of approval. This is to protect you if someone changes their mind later. You're not required to complete a Murder ticket if parties agree. You probably want to make note of any agreement in an Open Communication thread.
๐งช What about secret murders like assassinations and poisonings?
We want character death to occur as a part of a story. Assassinations and poisonings out of the blue are interesting in TV shows and movies, but it's not a very fulfilling end to a character. These can be options on the table after a regular Murder ticket is approved.
โ Can I get someone to help me after I have an approved Murder ticket?
That's something we'll want to talk about in the ticket specifically. When there are situations with an imbalance of power between parties, we may allow other parties to assist, but the characters with Murder approval must always be present for the kill.
๐๏ธ What if I change my mind?
It can happen, especially when we allow story to come first. Just let us know. Understand that while you may no longer be seeking the other person's death, the other party has a right to continue pursuit. You need to give your story partner the respect of allowing them to resolve their story as well.
