Raids

🚧 Under Construction 🚧

πŸ₯· Raids

Covers general raid rules

A raid is entering the safehouse of another player without permission. Attempting to break into and/or steal a claimed vehicle is also considered a raid.

Important to Remember

  • Doors that are part of a safehouse are always considered locked (this includes doors that are part of the outside walls around a safehouse).
  • Claimed vehicles are also to be considered locked (even if you can access the contents).
  • Gardens and outside areas, if accessible (no walls, or able to climb a wall) don't require a raid ticket to walk around in, but taking items from those areas (even when not inside of a mechanical safehouse zone) OR leaving items will require a raid ticket. This is so that the target has an opportunity for roleplay and isn't suddenly missing their garden gnome because it was a square outside their safehouse zone. Obviously, generators attached to a safehoused building are also protected under raid rules. For information about unclaimed vehicles parked in safehouse territory, see the vehicle raid rules.

‼️ Rules about considering safehouses and vehicles as locked are because PZ is janky and sometimes doesn't register you've locked something or you've kept doors closed. Wouldn't you want us to presume you're smart enough to close and lock your doors in an apocalypse with bandits around?
The same goes with gates and doors destroyed by zombies. You must roleplay them as intact. Your base shouldn't suddenly be vulnerable because you can't be online 24/7 or because someone led a horde to your gate.‼️

πŸ’° Types of Raids

πŸ”‘ Friendly Thievery

If you have been granted permission in a Safehouse, it does not entitle you to take the belongings of others without possible repercussions. Just as we require there to be risk of discovery with a raid, there should be risk of discovery if you steal from people who've trusted you. You must open a Raid ticket. It will not have the same requirements as a raid, but we do need to know the details of what you're taking, when and how. If you have the consent of the person you're stealing from, indicate that as well. However, telling them OOC that you did it or having their consent via DM does not satisfy the ticket requirement.

To put it plainly, you must open a raid ticket to steal belongings that are not your own inside a safehouse even if you were granted mechanical permissions.

πŸ’° Raiding for Loot

A raid with the goal of stealing resources from a base (weapons, materials, food, vehicle inside a walled off safehouse) can only be done when a person who lives in the safehouse is online at the start of the raid. They don't have to be inside their base.

Number of Raiders to Targets

If your raiding party consists of two players, then a minimum of two Defenders must be online. For every additional member to your raiding party, another Defender has to be online as well.

Number of raiders Number of defenders
1 raider 1 defender online
2 raiders 2 defender online
3 raiders 3 defenders online
4 raiders 4 defenders online
5 raiders 5 defenders online

The maximum size of a raiding party is five raiders. If you want to raid with a larger group, you need to contact the safehouse owner though discord and ask permission to raid with a larger group. This can be a great way to start larger conflicts between groups, but often needs a lot of scheduling and ground rules.

The raid ends when the raiders have left the area of the safehouse (including any enclosed areas like a garden or parking lot).

Loot Limits

The staff member will spawn one standard duffel bag that you can fill with the loot you can reasonably carry. If you're attempting to take an item larger than will fit in your duffel bag, you can take only that one item.

  • When it comes to guns and ammo, you are allowed to steal half (rounded down) the amount of the pistols, rifles, weapon attachments, magazines and ammo you find inside the safehouse, this includes searching parked vehicles that contain loot.

Example: You raid a safehouse and find a chest filled with 12 boxes of ammo, four rifles and five pistols. In this scenario you are allowed to take 6 boxes of ammo, two pistols and two rifles. As long as it fits in the duffel bag.

πŸ’΅ A raid for loot can be declined if you or your group has recently done a raid in which you have gained a good amount of loot. It can also be declined if the target has been the victim of a raid for loot recently.

πŸ” All raids result in Clues

🎭 Raiding for Roleplay

🎭 When the raid is not about getting loot for yourself, but to further a story, you'll follow the same basic rules as Raiding for Loot, but they do not include obtaining non-roleplay related loot.

βŒ› Together with the raider, staff will try to plan the raid during primetime EU server time. If the raider and defender share a time zone, we'll try to accommodate that. If there are multiple attempts to set up a raid where enough defenders are online, a raid where the defender is offline can be approved.

❗ Examples of raids for roleplay are:

  • Breaking in to steal someone’s secret pancake recipe
  • Breaking in with the intention of planting evidence of a crime in someone’s room
  • Breaking in so you can scout the area
  • Breaking in so you can rescue your friend who is a prisoner
  • Breaking in so you can steal a journal or a personal item out of revenge
  • Breaking in because you want to spray graffiti in your opponents living room
  • Breaking in because your character is starving and desperately needs food.
  • Breaking in with the intention of damaging the safehouse.

πŸ₯ž A raid for roleplay will only be approved if you have a good IC explanation for the raid. If you want to steal a pancake recipe, we will ask less proof of roleplay history with the target than if you wanted to steal someone's pet or diary.

Damaging Property for Revenge

We know there are times when the story has escalated to causing damage to the property of others to send a message. Any major damage plans need to be discussed in the ticket prior to raid approval. If we allow a roleplay raid to include some damage, it will be superficial in nature (not destroying in game unique items) and will be marked with an exclaim unless the raid has been previously discussed with the target under an agreement. After the raid, if the target would like staff to physically represent the damage, we can do so. If it's damage to a vehicle, see the rules in unknown about damage limits.

βœ… Before the raid, you tell the staff you'd like to destroy the lawn in front of your rival's house, pouring a penis shape in gasoline and lighting it.
❌ During the raid, you whip out a molotov and throw it at the target's shed.

πŸ”Ž All raids result in Clues

Clues Left Behind

After a raid (whether successful or not), the staff member overseeing the raid will roll a six sided die. If you wish, we can roll in the raid ticket and provide the results for transparency. We expect that you will not metagame with the information. You can also choose not to know the results and we will roll the die in staff area, recording the results.

πŸ‘’ 6: Boot prints are left behind.
The raider has to keep the boots used during the raid on his character for the next 48 IRL hours. Suspicious people can attempt to compare the raider's boots with the boot prints. The raider is free to refuse this request in RP.

πŸ—’οΈ 5: You drop a note with a list describing the target of your raid or your raiding plan.
This may later be compared to handwriting by someone very observant and matched to you.

πŸ‘€ 4: An NPC saw you, knows what you looked like and will give a description.
This NPC will have a name and be personified to give that information. If you later find out who squealed on you, open a ticket and you can try to enact your revenge.

``πŸ’ 3: An NPC saw you and knows what you looked like, will give a description of both you and your vehicle.
Same as above with the NPC.

πŸ“Έ 2: An NPC witnesses saw you and takes a photo of you and your vehicle.
Same as above with the NPC.

πŸͺͺ 1: You lose either your wallet with ID-card, a polaroid your character owns and is visible in, or a very obvious signature item of yours.
For example, your character always wears a Davey Crockett hat. In the stress of the raid, you drop it. Most folks know that's your signature item and you're never seen without it.)

  • Defenders can't take this as absolute proof that you are the raider, but they can suspect you are involved somehow.

❓ How Do I Raid?

To raid, you must open a raid ticket and complete it with the following information:

  • Is this a raid for Loot or Roleplay?
  • Who do you want to raid?
  • Why?
  • Where is the location of the raid? (Please include coordinates)
  • What are you looking for? / What do you want to do?
  • Who will you be raiding with? (/add them to this ticket so we can discuss scheduling)

Staff will contact you to ask questions to decide whether to approve the raid or not. A raid for loot can be declined if you or your group has recently done a raid in which you have gained a good amount of loot. It can also be declined if the target has been the victim of a raid for loot recently.

If approved, the staff member will agree on a date and time with you. If the day and time comes and the defender (or enough defenders) are not online, you will need to reschedule. You can use IC tactics to achieve this or talk to your target OOC about timing. An example of IC tactics might be having a friend schedule a meet up with the target for a car repair elsewhere while you break into the target's home. An example of OOC communication would be contacting the target, letting them know you'd like to do a raid sometime and finding out their general schedule. We can also do this on your behalf if you'd like (to maintain anonymity). You'll find most people accepting when you contact them OOC because it shows you're respecting their input and time.

In rare circumstances, we may approve a raid for roleplay without the defender online, but you'll still need to make multiple attempts.

What Do I Do?

πŸ’¬ Check with Staff
On the day and nearing the time of raid, check with the staff member running the raid to make sure the defender's online.

πŸ—“οΈ Meet the Staff Member Near the Raid
If the defender is online, you'll be told to meet up near the raid location where the staff member will join you. You'll confirm your plans and be told when it's okay to start. If you're raiding for loot, you'll receive your duffel bag.

⌨️ Roleplay Your Actions
Approach the property or vehicle, roleplay your actions. You may be asked to make any appropriate rolls by the staff member. If you know what rolls to make because you read about Raiding Tools & Defenses you can go ahead and make the rolls. Staff will add you to the safehouse, unlock any doors as appropriate and may make environmental announcements/noises based on your actions. Particularly loud actions can certainly attract zombies or other players.

πŸ‘€ If You Get Caught
Roleplay. Follow the Hostile Rules and Combat Rules. Maybe you're the kind of person who talks their way out. Maybe you would fight your way out. Just remember, you're on their turf and they'll definitely have the advantage.

πŸ’° When You're Done
You have your loot (or maybe you ran away), leave the raid area and stop somewhere safe so staff can follow up with you. They'll take note of what you have in your duffel if you're raiding for loot and handle any Clues. They'll let you know when you're free to go.

πŸš— Stealing or Damaging Vehicles

Players can claim up to 3 vehicles (trailers do count as a vehicle) with the claim mod. Don't claim a car you can't drive or operate because you might come back later for it or think you'll come back when you can hotwire it. You may well find it gone when you get back from a reasonable raid. There's no magic protecting your vehicle and you're just keeping it from other players who could use it when you can't. Note claims are not valid.

πŸ”‘ Always roleplay vehicles are locked and secured. Desync/unlock bugs happen frequently.

πŸš™ The owner of the vehicle must be online during the raid. If you want to steal the vehicle with the intention to only use it for a short period of time, then you must inform the moderator ahead of time in the ticket. The car must be left in a place where it can be found by the previous owner. The moderator will provide clues to the previous owner on where to find the car.

  • ⏳ Exception - Abandoned Vehicles: If a vehicle has not been moved for 7 days and is left in the open (not secured within a base or enclosed area), it is considered abandoned and may be subject to an offline raid without clues. Unsecured vehicles that have been claimed but show little to no use may be unclaimed by staff without requiring the 7-day waiting period. Claims are not intended to reserve or "call dibs" on vehicles.

πŸŽ’ When you steal a vehicle, the staff member overseeing the raid will give you one duffel bag which you can fill with loot that is found inside the vehicle, the remaining loot will be returned by staff to the victim of the raid.

πŸ–ΌοΈ Roleplay items like "Picard's photo, Idle's necklace" can only be stolen if you intend to create roleplay with this theft. The owner of these items must later get the chance to get these items back.

🏏 If you make a raid ticket because you want to damage a vehicle, you will need a solid roleplay reason to do so. Damaging a vehicle is limited to hood (25 damage), windshield (100 damage) and releasing the air from the tires of the vehicle.

πŸ”Ž When the raid has been successful, the staff member overseeing the raid will roll the Clues die privately, which will determine which clues are left for the victim of the raid.

Different cases for vehicle raids and what to do

Claimed Vehicles & Mechanic-Space Protected Unclaimed Vehicles

  • 🎟️ Make a raid ticket
  • Special Mechanic Spaces are labeled with a red exclaim and are protected by raid rules.

'Unprotected' Unclaimed Vehicles inside Walls/Gates of a Safehouse

  • 🎟️ Make a raid ticket
  • If you feel the amount of unclaimed vehicles is excessive, you may wish to make a Concern ticket so staff can move vehicles and address any car hoarding issues.

Unclaimed Vehicles outside of a walled/gated Safehouse area

  • βœ… Fair game.

πŸ—‘οΈ Robberies

They should not be debilitating, but an opportunity for more story.

Robbery is using the threat of violence against another character to take their belongings and/or their vehicle.

All robberies are subject to hostile action rules. Make sure you fully understand these rules before trying to rob a player. The rules here are per instance of robbery.

During a robbery, the robbers are allowed to steal one of the following:

  • πŸš— One vehicle (emptied of belongings)
  • πŸ’° Half their money
  • πŸ”« A single weapon, one magazine
  • πŸ“¦ One box of ammo
  • πŸ–ΌοΈ A personal item (this can be an item of clothing)
  • πŸ’Š Up to 5 small items like canned goods, perishable food, walkie, bandage, antidepressants, MRE, poster, magazine, bottle of water. (List is not meant to be all inclusive.)

Multiple Parties

When multiple parties are engaged in robbery, things can get complicated so we've included some examples. Each robber can elect to rob only one victim in an encounter. A victim can only be robbed once in that encounter.

Examples:

  • Alex & Bryan jump Caleb & Dimitri and rob them. Alex elects to rob Caleb. Bryan cannot rob Caleb because they have already been robbed in the encounter. Bryan can rob Dimitri.
  • Frank, Xavier and Zachary jump Alex & Bryan. Frank elects to rob Alex, Zachary elects to rob Bryan. Xavier can't rob anyone because there's no one left who hasn't been robbed.
  • Georgina jumps Helen & Isabel. Georgina can only rob one of the two.

πŸ“Έ Both parties should take screenshots of any items taken in case there are disputes. If items need to be left on the side of the road (such as when emptying a vehicle), take screenshots of any items left (in case of disappearance/despawn) and leave an exclaim (❗) until you can return indicating it's involved in a Robbery and being resolved - to open a ticket in order to steal any of the items. Disputes that arise without screenshots may result in a voided robbery.

Why?
Robbery shouldn't be debilitating, but an opportunity for more story.

  • Guns and ammo are rare on Deadline and losing everything isn't fun.
  • If you're complying with a robbery, you have Surrendered. See rules there regarding being searched.
  • Failure to comply with a robbery Invites Consequences.

The robber must emote what items are taken as these would be known to the victim. After the selection, the rest returns to the victim's inventory but cannot be used in any PVP in that scene.

Mechanically they are still in the inventory of the victim, but roleplay-wise, you can agree to say the victim simply left it at home or the robber leaves the rest somewhere close before leaving.

If you are stealing a player's personal item (for example β€˜Mom’s necklace’, β€˜Photo of my husband’ β€˜My Diary’), you must make sure a proper story comes from this. The victim must get the chance to retrieve this item at some point.

Raiding Tools & Defenses

How you can break in and how defenses work.

Ground Rules

πŸšͺ Doors and windows that are part of a safehouse are considered locked (this includes doors that are part of the walls around the outside of a safehouse).

  • For every door, you get one attempt to open it.
  • You can retry a single door in a raid only once. (This is to prevent people from just spamming dice to get through.)

πŸ”‘ If the raider has gotten the in game key item or the keycode for the doors of a safehouse, they may simply unlock the doors and enter the safehouse. This is only allowed if they have received the key or keycode during roleplay and can provide a screenshot of this.

🏚️ If a door or window is barricaded with planks or metal, the door will require one RP + Dice roll to remove the barricades and a second to unlock the door.

❗ A raid needs to be fair for both raider and defender. This means a defender can not simply turn their base into a maze of doors. A base needs to be realistic. Staff can decide to make some doors unlocked.

Doors

Doors play a large role in how raids play out. Different type of doors require different types of tools, roleplay and dice rolls. You can see and build the different type of doors through the Building Menu (shown below). Some will be harder to unlock than others.
