Vehicles

Learn more about Car claims, Parts Removal, Vehicle Accidents.

🚘 General vehicle rules

  • You can claim one vehicle. Trailers do count as a vehicle so you may need to make the choice of protecting your car or your trailer at this time.
  • You can claim a vehicle by using a Locking Kit. Find a local mechanic who can sell you one.
  • Horses can also be 'claimed' but don't need a special kit to do so. Right click on a horse to claim it.

‼️ Always right click on a vehicle (and horses) to check if the vehicle (or horse) is claimed or unclaimed.

You must always roleplay claimed vehicles as locked and secured, even if the permissions allow you any sort of access to the car. You may find vehicles have access permissions, but that does not mean you can take anything from them or operate them if the vehicle is claimed.

  • ‼️ You MUST open a raid ticket if you want to take items from a claimed car or take the car itself. Horses are also subject to Raid tickets. Desync/unlock bugs happen frequently.

  • We have added the ability to share a vehicle by in-game faction (not discord faction). We recommend that you turn off permissions and make a faction with those you'd like to share a vehicle to protect your vehicle and belongings.

  • Do not keep any unclaimed vehicles inside your walls. Staff may remove unclaimed vehicles and place them elsewhere for others to find and use.

  • Mechanics can make a general ticket to get two "mechanic spaces" put down to protect an unclaimed vehicle. That way, they can protect them while they're doing repairs. Price: one bag of concrete and one can of paint.

  • If you find yourself with an excess of unclaimed vehicles you'd like to sell, open a ticket and we can post an event notice for you to the server.

Abandoned Vehicles

If a vehicle has not been moved for 7 days and is left in the open (not secured within a base or enclosed area), it is considered abandoned and may be subject to an offline raid without clues.

Unsecured vehicles that have been claimed but show little to no use may be unclaimed by staff without requiring the 7-day waiting period. Claims are not intended to reserve or "call dibs" on vehicles.

🛠️ Swapping parts and salvaging vehicles

Special Chapter 3 Rules

The Deadlands has been scavenged heavily over the years and you will be hard pressed to find a serviceable vehicle out there. That means we've added some special rules JUST for Chapter 3.

  • You can remove car parts (outside of engine parts) from any unclaimed vehicle regardless of the vehicle's quality.
  • Engine parts cannot be removed from cars unless the engine condition is below 40%
  • Many cars spawn with low condition or no engine parts. This is because the area has been heavily scavenged and not a sign of rule breaks.
  • When you dismantle a wreck, you will gain scrap you can use to make other items. The wreck will only be able to be 'dismantled' once in this manner but the shell of the wreck will still remain. This is for visual affect to keep the map looking post apocalyptic but also as a place folks could grab parts from later as well. Burnt vehicles do not have parts but can also be dismantled only once but still remain behind for visual purposes.

If you need wrecks or burnt vehicles removed from the map for RP/building purposes, dismantle them and open a ticket with the coordinates for your request.

Standard Rules for Other Chapters

We're leaving our usual rules here so that you can see the original language in case we head back to this in the future.

  • You can swap parts of any car with any other, at any condition. The swap must be 1 for 1: if you take a hood, you must leave a hood. This means if you need a new part for your car, you have two options:
    • Making sure the car you're taking from has a new hood installed.
    • Leaving a broken part inside the trunk of the car you're taking it from. It must be the same part you're taking.
  • ‼️ It's strictly forbidden to lower the condition of a car's engine on purpose by colliding against objects and buildings. Doing this will result in a ban.
  • If the car's engine condition is below 40% and you take a part without replacing it, you must salvage the vehicle and take all the parts it drops to prevent littering, which impacts the server performance.
Failure to do so may forfeit the levels you gained by disobeying the rules, as well as losing the metal you gained from it.

Example
Imagine the following situation: your car has a damaged hood, which you need replaced, and you find an unclaimed car with a hood in perfect condition.

  • If your own car's hood is at 1% or above, you must install said hood in the car you're taking one from.
  • If your own car's hood is at 0%, it means it's broken and cannot be installed on the car you're taking a hood from. For it to be considered a swap, you must place your broken hood in the other car's trunk.
  • If you take the hood from the other car but you don't have another hood to replace it with, you must dismantle the car you took the hood from and take all the pieces it drops.

💥 Vehicle Accidents

Vehicle vs. Person, Vehicle vs. Vehicle or Vehicle vs. Building

Because of the janky nature of PZ, there are often times when people collide due to desync or lag. We have specifically turned off damage between car and player as well as turned car v. car damage as low as possible.

  • You must have consent of both involved parties (operator of both/all vehicles, operator & victim) to say an accident as occurred IC.
The default is that it's a stupid PZ issue. If it happens, get out of the vehicle and discuss OOC briefly if you're going to proceed with the accident as IC. If not, you can RP it as a near miss.
  • This means you cannot use a vehicle chase scene to run someone off the road without the consent of both parties involved. Work with each other to come up with a solution.

Make sure you read Hostile RP with Vehicles if engaging in hostile activity with a vehicle.
