Dice Combat - Actions: Movement

Dice Combat - Actions: Movement

Other dice rule sections

All movement happens on your turn.

🚶 Movement

On your turn, you can move in any direction: horizontal, vertical or diagonal. A diagonal step counts as 1 tile.

Your normal movement is:

  • No trait: 5 tiles
  • Featherweight: 6 tiles
  • Heavyweight: 4 tiles

Movement roll

At the start of each of your turns the system rolls your movement for that turn: an equal chance of your normal number, 1 more or 1 less. With 5 that is always 4, 5 or 6. It never builds up from turn to turn.

  • The combat log shows the result when your turn starts, for example "They can move 6 tiles this turn."
  • The number after each name in the turn order is how many tiles they can move this turn. It shows 0 while grappled or grappling.
  • Press Move range to show your movement ring (inner) and your dash ring (outer). They use your number for this turn.
  • Move before you act. Attacking, throwing, grappling, breaking free, first aid, surrendering or a failed escape ends your turn at once.

Moving and melee

  • Lunger: if you attack in melee after moving 3 or more tiles in a straight line this turn (same row, same column or an exact diagonal, on the same floor), you get +2 Attack.
  • Attacks of opportunity: stepping out of the reach of anyone who is unarmed or holding a melee weapon during your turn gives them a free attack. See Basics guide → Attack of Opportunity, or Disengage first (Actions: Self-preservation).

The combat area

During combat you cannot move more than 30 tiles from the combat's centre. If you do, you are snapped back to its edge.

🏃 Dashing

You may use the Dash action to double your movement.

  • This counts as an action; you can only take one action each turn.
  • You cannot use the Dash action two turns in a row.
  • There is no Dash button: move within your dash ring, then press Finish turn.

🫳 Being grappled

While you are being grappled you may not move until the grapple is broken, but you can take other actions, such as attacking or trying to break free with the Break free button. You cannot Escape while grappled, and your movement never triggers attacks of opportunity. The grappler may not move either until they release you. See Actions: Hostile → Grappling.
